Kate & John – My best friend’s wedding

March 7th, 2013

I first met Kate when I was twelve years old, it was my first year of high school. She soon became my best friend, and was just like the sister I never had. We were inseparable, until the very sad day that Kate and her family moved to the Sunshine Coast in Queensland….

The point of my post is not to paint a picture of our friendship that spans more than 25 years, but to tell the story of the beautiful day that was Kate and John’s wedding day.

Kate and John met through mutual friends on a blind date. It was the start of something amazing! Only a few years later, they chose the house of those mutual friends, and the place of that very first blind date, as the place to make their wedding vows.

It was a beautiful casual ceremony, situated in the garden, in front of their closest family and friends. With hay bales forming the aisles, and parasols to shade the guests from the sun. Kate and John were attended by 14 flowergirls, all dressed in pretty, white, Summer dresses. Not to be forgotten were Kate’s children, Ella, and Gabriel who proudly walked his mum down the aisle.

Kate wore a stunning couture gown by Gwendolynne of Melbourne, which she teamed with a pair of nude suede heels from Prada. John chose to wear a Hugo Boss suit and Bally boots.

The original cottage, built in the 1800s, and the cottage garden, provided a gorgeous rustic backdrop for Kate and John’s wedding photography in Healesville, Victoria.

Kate and John hosted a reception at Healesville Sanctuary.

Here are some of my favourite images from “my best friend’s wedding”….

Fiona & Aly | Islamic Wedding Melbourne

February 22nd, 2013

Fiona and Aly had a very special wedding celebration; the first a very intimate dinner reception in Melbourne at the gorgeous Grand Hyatt, followed by a huge celebration in Egypt, Aly’s home country.

I was lucky enough to be asked by Fiona and Aly to photograph the occasion as I am a female photographer, something that made Fiona feel comfortable, and that she felt would comply with her Islamic culture. Fiona had her wedding gown and hijab made especially by a local designer, which was a beautiful blend of traditions!

The Grand Hyatt was the chosen venue for the intimate reception. With 50 guests, comprising of family and friends from Australia, Egypt, Greece and the UK, the atmosphere was amazing. From the lovely quiet dinner, the beautiful speeches made by Aly and Fiona’s brother Jim, to the traditional Greek and Islamic dancing at the end of the night, this was a wedding I will certainly not forget.

I’ve chosen just a few images to share of this culture filled wedding!

Stef & Ben | Yarra Ranges Wedding

February 22nd, 2013

The 2013 wedding season started with a couple of culturally rich occasions.

First up, we had the wedding of Stef and Ben, who were married at St Haralambos Greek Orthodox Church in Templestowe. This was my first ever Greek Orthodox ceremony! I must say, the chanting and tradition of the ceremony were something I had not experienced before, and made it that extra special to be part of.

Stef wore a stunning gown by Melbourne designer, Mariana Hardwick, a lovely floaty strapless gown in white. Her bridesmaids wore apricot coloured, strapless dresses, perfectly suited to the hot Summer’s day that it was.

After a long drive through the Dandenongs and Yarra Ranges, stopping by the side of the road as we saw a photo opportunity, we arrived at Yarra Ranges Estate in Monbulk, where we were greeted by Wedding Planner Rodney from Weddings with Rodney.

We made the most of the property, taking photos throughout, before the reception was due to start.

I’m way behind on my blogging, so I’ve grabbed a small handful of images to share of Stef and Ben’s wedding at Yarra Ranges Estate.

Hayley & Greg | Yarra Valley Vineyard Wedding

February 4th, 2013

It’s not very often I have a couple come to me wanting to have their wedding photos taken before the ceremony, which is exactly what Hayley and Greg chose to do. It made for a lovely relaxed photo shoot at a number of locations across the Yarra Valley, including Mont De Lancey, which was initially chosen as a back-up wet-weather plan due to the terrible storms that were forecast for Melbourne that day. Although it didn’t rain, we were blessed with an overcast day with sunshine filtering through at the right moments, we ran with the back-up plan and used any locations we could!

I was in my element at Hayley’s parent’s home, with so many gorgeous props to use, and as most people who know me well will agree with, old treasures make my heart sing. I was particularly taken with Carol’s antique type writer, which features in a number of images in this post.

Everyone knows I love a country style / vineyard wedding, and take every opportunity to make my couples go for a walk through the vines and fields of long grass, so why would Hayley and Greg’s wedding be any different! I was super excited to find a paddock near Lilydale Estate, which I jumped at immediately, giving them both a quiet moment away from their guests, before they danced the night away at their cocktail reception.

I’m sure you’ll agree that this wedding has a gorgeous romantic feel to it.

Caileigh | Ten day old newborn photography

January 25th, 2013

Gorgeous little Caileigh came to see my with her proud parents when she was just ten days old. She slept and slept throughout the session and hardly seemed to notice that she was being moved around into various poses.

Such a pretty little girl with long dark eyelashes and cupid lips, I had to share a handful of my favourites from Caileigh’s newborn photo session.

Renee & Richard | Immerse in the Yarra Valley Wedding

January 22nd, 2013

Renee and Richard chose the beautiful Immerse in the Yarra Valley as the venue for their romantic style vineyard wedding. They were married in the little chapel on the property by celebrant, Rachael Pascoe, of About to Be.

Renee, dressed in a gorgeous Raffaele Ciuca ivory gown, with the most amazing bustling, carried a bouquet of lovely cream and mauve roses by Debbie O’Neil. Her bridesmaids wore floaty, summery dresses in soft mauve, which suited the prettiness that Immerse has to offer. Richard and his groomsmen wore classic black suits and matching ties from Formal Red.

Melbourne turned on a gorgeous sunny day, perfect for Renee and Richard to become part of the beautiful scenery; grape vines, golden fields and rolling hills of the Yarra Valley.

In case you’re wondering who the little man in the bow tie is, that’s Billy, Renee and Richard’s fur baby, who just had to have his photo taken! What a little poser!

I hope you enjoy looking through Renee and Richard’s sneak peeks!

Ava | Newborn Photographer Eastern Suburbs Melbourne

January 3rd, 2013

Ava and her parents came to see me just before Christmas. She was just 12 days old and a complete joy to photograph.

Little Ava is going to be a heart breaker when she’s older, with those killer eyelashes and pouty lips that most girls would die for!

There were so many gorgeous images from Ava’s session that I had trouble choosing a few to show, so here are just a few that I wanted to share.

Ted & Issy | Eastern Suburbs Photographer Melbourne

January 2nd, 2013

I’ve been hanging out to post some images I took before Christmas of a gorgeous little brother and sister team, Ted and Issy. The photo session was a secret, as Ted & Issy’s Grandmother wanted to surprise their mother with some gorgeous canvases for Christmas.

The kids were loads of fun to photograph, it was great to just run with it and see what we came up with.

Here are a few of my favourites from their shoot, that show the fun we had on the day.

Hayley & Gary tie the knot | Geelong Carousel Wedding

December 17th, 2012

This post is going to be incredibly heavy on the images, as this wedding was so visual, I just had to show everything! Please be patient as the images load, I promise you, it’s worth the wait. In the meantime, have a read as I try to describe all that was Hayley and Gary’s wedding day!

When Hayley and Gary phoned me up to see if I was free to photograph their wedding, I felt incredibly excited! I’ve gotten to know Hayley and Gary (and their families) over the years, through photographing both of their families, their engagement, and of course, their gorgeous little dog, Bronte. I know how much Hayley likes to focus on the details of things, and I just knew that her wedding would be the same. Wow. What an understatement!

From the very moment I walked into Hayley and Gary’s home, I knew that there was to be nothing left to the imagination. The bridesmaids were all dressed in matching hot pink pjs, with the word “Bridesmaid” printed across the back. Even their underwear was printed, not to mention Hayley’s Dad’s undies which of course said “Father of the Bride”. Thanks for the flash too Ross!

Hayley had made up gorgeous gift bags and little emergency kits for the bridal party, containing everything that they could ever need! The invitations were all handmade with natural papers, burlap and lace, and certainly set the theme for the day.

The ceremony was held on the decking outside the Carousel at Geelong’s Eastern Beach, and was conducted by Celebrant, Shane Bourke. The reception followed that evening at The Pier. The tables were decorated with sliced tree stumps, tin cans of summery flowers and jars of candles, all sitting on crisp white tablecloths. Guest’s place settings were identified with scrabble-inspired letters (to match Gary’s cuff links!)! Upon entering the room, guests were greeted by a gorgeous little table that looked like something out of Alice in Wonderland, with the framed seating plan pegged up on a mini clothes line. The bonbonniere were a mix of old-fashioned sweets from Sovereign Hill in Ballarat, and pretty little gift boxes tied with twine, completed with a paper doily. Hayley had gone all out with the Candy Buffet; elaborate glass urns and filing drawers bursting with old-fashioned favourites.

This post is dedicated to Hayley’s Grandmother, who very sadly passed away in the early hours of Hayley and Gary’s wedding day.

Monica & Frank | Overnewton Castle, Keilor

December 6th, 2012

Overnewton Castle in Keilor was where Monica and Frank decided to tie the knot. It certainly set the theme of their classic style wedding, with it’s old world charm and manicured gardens. The ceremony was held in the gardens and was conducted by Celebrant, Lynton Round. Whilst I was photographing the ceremony, I couldn’t help but notice the butterflies that had joined in on the celebrations, fluttering over the heads of the guests as they watched Monica and Frank make their vows.

Monica, dressed in a beaded couture gown by L’jais, carried a bouquet of stunning peonies in white and pale pink. Her bridesmaids wore lovely, floaty, soft grey dresses, that were teamed with vintage style posies of hydrangeas, peonies and roses in pinks and greens. Frank and his groomsmen wore black tuxedos with bow ties, and black patent shoes to top off the classic look.

The bridal party travelled by limousine into the city where they sipped frappes and lattes from Pellegrini’s Espresso Bar in between photos, then enjoyed a relaxing ride back to Overnewton Castle for a night of partying.

A night of dancing and celebrating was had by all, with a fantastic range of Assyrian and Croatian music being played by DJ Nader.

I promised Monika a few sneak peeks, so here they are!

Carrie and Rakesh were married in an intimate ceremony at St Cuthberts Wedding Chapel, Menzies Creek. Celebrant, Anne Aldrige conducted the ceremony surrounded by 80 of the couple’s family and friends.

Carrie, a makeup artist, did her own makeup and looked every bit glamourous in her stunning fitted lace and feather gown, and catherdral length veil. Rakesh wore a lovely charcoal suit by Hugo Boss, complete with bow tie.

After the ceremony, Carrie and Rakesh had photos taken at Menzies Creek Railway Station, and the Trestle Bridge, before heading to Fortnums in Sassafras where they enjoyed their wedding reception.

Amanda & Anthony | Safety Beach Sailing Club Wedding

October 31st, 2012

It was one of those days in Melbourne when it looks like it’s going to rain, then suddenly, out comes the sun and the sky turns blue!

Amanda and Anthony chose Safety Beach Sailing Club as the venue for their beach wedding (the first wedding I’ve shot without shoes, gotta love that!). Surrounded by family and friends, they took their vows on the sands of Safety Beach, over looking the beautiful Martha Cove. They were married by Celebrant Felicity Kerr, a Mornington Peninsula based Celebrant.

Amanda wore a beautiful gown by Fairytales Bridal Boutique and was attended by her sister and two best friends. Anthony wore a suit from Man to Man, and had the support of his best mates and brother on this special day. The bride and bridesmaids arrived in a black Monara, while the boys rode in an orange Torana!

I’ve managed to pick out just a handful of images for Amanda and Anthony before they head off to the USA!

Carly and Ryan | Bramleigh Wedding

October 31st, 2012

Carly and Ryan were married on a beautiful Spring day in Melbourne at Bram Leigh Receptions in Croydon.

Carly wore a gorgeous gown in the palest of pinks from Spurling in Richmond. She wanted to look every bit a princess, and she certainly did! On her feet, she wore hot pink pumps, matching perfectly with the theme she had chosen for the reception which was hot pink and black.

The ceremony was held in the gardens at Bram Leigh, where guests enjoyed canapes on the lawns before heading inside for the reception.

I promised Carly and Ryan I would share some of their wedding photos so they could take a peek while they are away on their honeymoon.

Lee & Steve | Swallowfield Vineyard Wedding

August 29th, 2012

When I heard that Lee and Steve had chosen Swallowfield Vineyard in Gembrook as the venue for their wedding, I was thrilled that they had asked me to be their wedding photographer. Not only is Swallowfield Vineyard my absolute favourite location for a country style wedding, Lee and Steve are so much fun to be around!

They were married by Celebrant, Mark Nunis, surrounded by family and friends, with Steve’s sister Lara being the ring barer.

Lee had her sister Rach as her bridesmaid, which made for a barrel of laughs as Rach is a bit of a comedian. Steve’s best man Greg, was also up for a bit of fun, especially when it came to having his bright yellow Monaro in some of the photos.

The happy couple were very relaxed as we moved to each of the spots at the vineyard, enjoying their wedding day, even having a bit of a run with the cows.

As always, Swallowfiled Vineyard turned on it’s beauty to enable us to get some fantastic shots.

Levi and Elyse | Newborn Photography

August 28th, 2012

Some of you may have head about my cousin Elyse, who at 28 weeks of her pregnancy, was involved in a terrible car accident that saw her rushed to hospital with a shattered pelvis and the health of her unborn baby unknown. Her baby, a little boy, had to be delivered as a result of the accident.

Born 12 weeks early, and weighing little more than 1200g, little Levi was facing the fight of his life; to stay alive. Brave and strong, just like his beautiful mum, Levi spent the first couple of months of his life in the NICU at the Royal Women’s Hospital in Melbourne, while Elyse was in a different hospital, The Royal Melbourne, trying to get well herself.

It was a long haul for Elyse, Ben, Addison and Levi, and all of her family who were courageous as each day meant a day closer to Elyse and Levi being able to go home.

That day finally came, when Levi was 9 weeks old (Elyse would have still been 37 weeks pregnant).

Here are some images of Elyse and Levi taken during those first couple of weeks home (and a couple from those first few days in NICU).

Such an inspirational Mum and baby <3

Engagement Session | Portrait Photographer Melbourne

A few months back I met Daniel and Georgina. Daniel lives in Melbourne, Georgina lives in Canberra.

Georgina had flown down to Melbourne for the weekend and was told that she was being taken somewhere secret. That secret was a photo shoot that Daniel had arranged with me, to celebrate their recent engagement.

Daniel’s brief for me was that it had to be colourful – not a problem given my favourite locations that are nearby my studio.

Lee & Melvin | Studley Park Boathouse

Lee and Melvin came to see me about doing a pre-wedding photo shoot in Melbourne. They told me that they are heading to their home country of Malaysia at the end of the month to get married, and wanted to have their photos done here before they left.
